From 2010 to Today: Tracking Black Women’s Professional Relationships and Career Success
In 2010, I published groundbreaking research on how personal relationships impact Black women’s professional lives and career outcomes. That study provided evidence-based insights into how our networks and relationships are powerful catalysts for success when strategically navigated.
Since then, our professional landscape has transformed dramatically. We’ve experienced a global pandemic, racial justice movements, the “Great Resignation,” a remote work revolution, and the rise (and sometimes abandonment) of DEI initiatives.
The critical question: Has this transformation helped or hindered Black women’s upward career mobility and perceived success? More importantly—what is an effective blueprint for thriving in today’s professional environment?
That’s exactly what my new global research study promises to uncover.
Acknowledging Challenges While Celebrating Black Women’s Brilliance
The professional systems weren’t designed with us in mind. The rules weren’t written to support our advancement. The traditional career paths often overlook our unique strengths and challenges.
And yet.
Black women are excelling across industries. We’re launching businesses at record rates. We’re earning advanced degrees while working full-time and raising families. We’re creating innovative solutions, leading transformative initiatives, and building wealth despite the obstacles.
We’re making extraordinary progress even when systems present significant barriers to our advancement.
This research isn’t simply documenting struggles—it’s capturing the ingenuity of how we navigate, transform, and thrive despite the odds. It’s about translating that brilliance into a powerful blueprint that Black women worldwide can leverage for their own success.
Global Research: Understanding Black Women’s Leadership Experiences Across the Diaspora
This research extends far beyond American experiences. I’m reaching out to Black women across the entire diaspora to create a truly global leadership blueprint:
- Caribbean women pioneering new leadership models
- African women reshaping industries on the continent
- Afro-Latinas breaking barriers in multiple cultural contexts
- Black European women navigating unique social dynamics
- Black Asian women bringing innovative perspectives
- Black women from every region leading with purpose and power
